Your data and choices
Privacy Policy
This privacy notice describes how Sophie's App processes personal data, which Apple system services it uses, and the choices available to you. It applies to the current iOS version of the app and this website.
Website statistics
This website uses GoatCounter to measure page visits, referral sources, countries, browsers, operating systems, and clicks to the App Store. This helps us understand how people find Sophie. These statistics concern the website, not activity inside the app.
GoatCounter uses no analytics cookies. IP addresses and browser headers are processed temporarily for country lookup and repeated-visit detection; GoatCounter does not store them in its analytics database. Our integration respects Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals and excludes local previews. Analytics blockers may also prevent collection. See GoatCounter’s privacy policy for processing and hosting details.

Overview
Sophie's App does not require a separate account and does not use an operator-owned backend server for your calendar, routine, location, or planning data. There is no behavioural advertising and no sale of personal data. Core features operate locally; if you enable iCloud Sync, certain planning data from the app additionally syncs through your private iCloud storage.
Calendar Data
With your iOS permission, Sophie's App reads events from the system calendars you select to display appointments and preparation plans. Sophie's App creates or changes an event only after a save action you initiate. Calendar content is not sent to a server operated by the app's operator. Whether calendar data syncs with iCloud, Google, Microsoft, or another provider depends on your system calendar configuration and that provider’s terms.
Location and MapKit
When you choose Current Location, Sophie's App uses your location in the foreground for travel-time estimates. You can optionally turn on background updates in Calendar Settings and allow Always location access. Sophie's App then responds to energy-efficient significant location changes and refreshes travel times for upcoming events even when the app is not open.
For place search and travel-time estimates, MapKit sends search terms and origin, destination, and route data to Apple. If you import Home and Work, Sophie's App receives only the contact card you select in the iOS contact picker and processes only postal addresses labeled Home or Work. This does not grant ongoing access to your contacts.
The app's operator does not receive these requests or contact details and does not create location history. Your current location is not stored. Places you save or import are generally stored on the device; if you enable iCloud Sync, a place configuration and updated travel time for a particular event may form part of the private iCloud planning data. Apple describes its processing in Apple Maps & Privacy.
Local Storage and Private iCloud
Preferences, routines, tags, saved places, and event-specific app configurations are stored on the device. iCloud Sync is off by default. If you enable it in Settings and iCloud is available, Sophie's App additionally syncs event-specific configurations to the private CloudKit database in your iCloud account.
These configurations may contain calendar and source identifiers, dates, preparation values, tags, travel mode, and, where applicable, a selected saved place, but not your complete calendar. Apple states that content in the private database belongs to the user and is not visible in the developer portal.
Notifications
Reminders are scheduled through the iOS notification system on your device. Sophie's App does not use its own push-notification server. You can disable notifications in iOS; scheduled app notifications are also removed when you delete all app data.
Analytics and Diagnostics
Sophie's App contains no advertising, tracking, or third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs. Through the App Store and depending on your device settings, Apple may process aggregated usage information or diagnostics you choose to share and make them available to the operator. Such information is used only for stability, troubleshooting, and support. Apple’s privacy policy provides details.
Support Communications
If you request support by email, the operator processes the email address, message, and information you voluntarily include to handle your request. Do not send complete calendar exports, health data, or other unnecessary sensitive content.
Purposes and Legal Bases
Where the operator processes personal data, this is done to provide the app and support functions you request under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR and for secure, reliable troubleshooting and communication based on legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. Where processing relies on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time for the future. iOS system permissions can be changed in System Settings.
Recipients and Transfers
Apple provides iOS, the App Store, iCloud/CloudKit, MapKit, and system notifications and processes data under its own privacy information and agreements. Your chosen calendar provider receives calendar changes through the iOS calendar database according to your existing account settings. The operator does not disclose your app data to advertising networks or data brokers. Any international transfers by Apple or your calendar provider are governed by their privacy information and appropriate safeguards.
Retention and Deletion
Preferences and local app data remain on your device until you change or remove content or delete the app. If you enable iCloud Sync, private iCloud planning data may remain after deleting the app and is subject to the storage and management controls of your iCloud account. Support communications are retained only as long as needed to handle the request, defend claims, or meet legal obligations. You manage calendar events with your calendar provider.
Your Rights
Subject to the GDPR, you have rights including information, access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection, and the right to withdraw consent for the future. The operator cannot access content stored locally or in your private iCloud database and therefore cannot export or erase it on your behalf. You manage local content in the app and on your device, and private iCloud data through your Apple account controls.
Send requests concerning support communications to the email address above. You may complain to the Austrian Data Protection Authority: Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, dsb@dsb.gv.at.
